February – A plant that will steal your heart.

Loropetalum related to the common and much admired Chinese witch hazel. I dare say that this plant is a much more valuable plant for any garden. Indeed, it is difficult not to find a place for this little beauty in any of the gardens we have created.

It has many features that make it a great shrub for a garden. It has ‘ever red’ leaves to admire in every season. It also grows slowly so it won’t easily outgrow a space and is quite happy in shady position.
If this wasn’t enough, it also has the most entrancing bright pink flowers in the darkest seasons of the year. It needs little attention except perhaps ensuring it is sheltered from strong winds.

To make its beautiful foliage stand out and be noticed, place it with pale or white backgrounds or in a pale pot. It works really well with the classy Carex prairie fire and just sparkles with white daffodils and tulips.
